To take nothing away from President Elect, Barack Obama, his win has added another loss to veterans of the Vietnam War. In addition to the many other sad notes on this war, Vietnam now has the unfortunate distinction of being the only American war never to have produced a president. This is not to say that John McCain should have been elected just so that we could have honored these brave soldiers, but, it seems that this loss is yet another slap in the face to the least honored of all American Veterans. Perhaps someday we will realize that the men and women who served in Southeast Asia were perhaps some of the finest to have ever worn the uniform. What leadership could these men have offered our country, if only we had recognized their worth? Thursday, November 13, 2008
